Welcome to our 7-day beta trial class
- Self introduction
- How this idea came about
- At your level, you just need a lot more speaking and listening practice opportunities
- Once or twice a week classes is not enough exposure
- You’re also busy with work, so scheduling classes is 麻烦
- So we’re designing a chinese-learning program delivered through WeChat, that targets your specific needs at the intermediate level
- Why you’re in this class
- Tested out this format with Ching
- Now we want to see how it works for other people
- Also want to see how the social element in a group chat works out
- You all have good foundational Chinese basics
- Close friends with Ching, and he knows you’ll give good feedback on this idea
How this will work
Every day, from Saturday 31 July to Friday 6 August:
- I will give you 3 different speech prompts in the morning
- You give an initial response, using the Chinese that you know
- You can use video or audio
- Try to give it before 2pm, so we have enough time to respond and practice
- I will give guidance on your response via video
- Rehearse your response and record a final video to share with the group before the end of the day
Too many videos?
- In a classroom environment, you get to learn not just from the teacher, but also from fellow students. We’d like to keep that benefit here.
- But, we might have a lot of videos and audio in the chat every day. So, we’ll try 2 methods:
- First 4 days, we’ll first try keeping everything in group chat.
- Last 3 days, you can choose. You can post in the group privately with the teacher
- However, for all 7 days, your final video must be shared in the group
Why not use audio notes instead?
- Audio is easier to record, feels more natural, less stress. But, you can’t save to your phone. Voice notes are difficult to scan (search).
- Recording video may feel more stressful when you first start off. But, you can save your final, rehearsed recordings. You can also save the teacher’s
- So, for your initial response, you can record audio or video.
- For your final response, please record video only.
